CRASH Network reports that the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows there were slight decreases in 2020 in the number of independent collision repair facilities as well as the total number of employees working in them.
There were about 247,000 employees working in just shy of 35,000 shops across the U.S., a drop of about 400 facilities and 1,500 employees from the prior year. However, research by CRASH Network shows the number of employees is still near historical highs, and employment has increased about 65% over the past three decades. In the early 1990s, shops averaged about five employees per facility. Today, there are 7.1 employees per shop.
