As first reported in Collision Week, the most recent government figures on inflation through July show the rate of growth of auto body repair prices is above the rate of general inflation for the 13th month in a row.

In July, the price of auto body work was up 14.56% compared to the previous year, up from the 14.3% increase in June. The increase for July 2022 versus the previous year is the largest increase recorded versus the previous year going all the way back to 1978, covered by the data set. Overall inflation, as represented by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items, increased by 8.52% in July, slightly down from 9.06% in June, as gasoline prices declined during the month.
