Waymo robotaxis waking San Francisco neighbors with nightly honking

Waymo’s autonomous robotaxis have been causing a disturbance in San Francisco due to their excessive honking while parked overnight in a rented lot. Residents living near the lot have complained about being repeatedly woken up by the loud honking, which can last for over an hour at pre-dawn hours as early as 4 a.m. and during evening rush hour times. The honking is disruptive and concerning for residents who worry about the potential for accidents or other safety issues.

Waymo has acknowledged the issue and stated that they are working on a solution to prevent excessive honking. However, residents are growing frustrated with the ongoing problem and are demanding a swift resolution. 

The situation has also drawn attention to the broader challenges of integrating autonomous vehicles into urban environments, including the need for careful consideration of noise pollution and other potential impacts on communities.
